Hunter Davis

Hello! My name is Hunter, and I’d like to tell you a bit about why I am so passionate about fitness. My education background is in counseling psychology, and I have received clinical training in psychotherapy as well as mindfulness meditation instruction. Like many of us do, I grew up as “the fat kid.” I was always big for my age and I tended to use food as a coping mechanism for negative feelings. I was always very involved with sports which kept me active, but my struggle with my weight was always in the back of my mind.

In my last two years of high school and into my freshman year of college, I struggled heavily with depression. In college, I was no longer playing sports, and I felt lost in terms of my life path. This led to me lean heavily on food and alcohol as a source of happiness, and my weight really got out of control. At my heaviest, I weighed 280lbs.

I remember having a reality check moment with myself in the bathroom mirror of my dorm. I told myself I was going to beat my weight problem or die trying. Over the next two years, I lost 112 pounds. I did it the hard way, on my own with internet research and a ton of sweat and tears. After losing the weight, I felt incredibly proud of myself, but I still hated the way I looked. I felt that my body did not reflect the amount of work I had put into it. This has led to my interest in hypertrophy training and muscle building.

I have been across the spectrum of fitness from being “too fat” to “too skinny,” and I have learned so much through the process. I truly believe that my experience has prepared me to walk with you through your own fitness journey! I believe in mastering the basics and fostering consistency above all else. My focus now is on building strength physically, mentally, and spiritually. I believe we can use that new strength to accomplish whatever goals we have in the gym or in life!
